Coreutils for Windows: Installer & Packaging
What coreutils is
A Microsoft-maintained build of uutils/coreutils, findutils, and grep packaged as a single multi-call binary for Windows. The goal is to make moving between Linux, macOS, WSL, containers, and Windows frictionless: the same commands, flags, and pipelines work the same way, so existing scripts carry over without translation.

Porting shell scripts between Linux and Windows breaks when commands don't match, forcing rewrites or WSL overhead. Microsoft released Coreutils - a native Windows build that brings ls, cat, grep, and 100+ Linux commands with identical flags and pipelines, so existing scripts run without translation. Already 4,928 stars in preview. Does this make Windows viable for shell scripting?
